Smooth progress for Shanghai World Expo 2010
Trial runs for Shanghai World Expo 2010 will begin from 1 January 2010. So far 231 participants have been confirmed including 185 countries. This is the largest number of participants since the very first World Expo and many foreign pavilions have started construction work.
Although the financial crisis has affected the planning for the expo, with some countries and organisations scaling back on their exhibitions and renting pavilions instead of constructing, none of the 231 participants have cancelled. Many participants had put the Expo as their priority and it will be the first time that the theme is the city itself.
Metro line 7 opens end of 2009
Metro line 7 is scheduled for opening at the end of 2009. Having been under construction for the past three years, line 7 will run from Basoshan District in the north of Shanghai, through downtown Puxi and into Pudong. It will also connect to the upcoming Shanghai World Expo 2010 site. In addition, there will also be eight interchange stations connected with existing lines, making this one of the most accessible lines in Shanghai’s metro system.
